Assisted Living

The five accredited Christian Science nursing facilities listed above provide some form of the kind of care and services often known as Assisted Living or Sheltered Care. This residential living arrangement provides services for those in need of some support services while striving to live a full life as a Christian Scientist. This category of care includes the following services designed to provide support in demonstrating freedom, normalcy, order, and dominion in daily activities.

  • Light assistance with daily routine
  • Periodic checks on residents
  • Three meals daily served in dining room
  • Weekly bath or shower
  • Weekly laundry service
  • Daily housekeeping

Residents needing additional assistance, including temporary nursing care, can receive extra services for an additional charge. Rooms usually have audio access to the Weekly Bible Lesson, Science and Health, and hymns 24-hours-a-day. Well-stocked reading rooms include the latest periodicals as well as Bible reference materials and a complete set of bound volumes of Christian Science literature. There are also Sunday church services, mid-week testimony meetings, and hymn sings. It is expected that all residents will continue to grow and progress. Depending on the facility, they will be required or encouraged to work with a Christian Science practitioner.

Residents should be able to exercise independent judgment, get in and out of a chair and bed without assistance, take meals in the dining room, eat without modification of food, dress with minimum assistance, take a daily sponge bath without assistance, walk to activities, if incontinent be able to take care of needs without assistance, be able to care for own needs during the night, and be comfortable in a group living setting.
